i think i can, i think i can
slowly but surely, i'm getting things done. i still wonder how i'm possibly going to get everything done by the dates i need, but for now i'm comforted by tangible finished products.
on tuesday i finished this book and m's birthday socks (only ten days late).
the socks are a basic free pattern, made with opal rainforest 'tiger.' last winter a bought a bunch of the rainforest yarns (flamingo, chameleon, tiger, zebra) because i loved how the colours looked in the balls. i've been sort of disappointed with how they pattern and pool when knit. i like the colours in 'tiger' but the effect isn't as tiger-y as i'd hoped.) i'll have better pictures when m wears the socks for the first time.)
as for love in the time of cholera, i started reading it just before we left halifax. i had finished one hundred years of solitude early in the spring and looked all over for a used copy of love in the time of cholera. with the ensuing stress of moving and packing and everything else, the book got neglected for long periods at a time. i really don't read enough anymore. so, in the past week or so, i made a concerted effort to finish up the rest of the book. i'm not sure what to read next. i have a pile of books that i mean to read, but they're never quite what i want when it's time to start something new. and it's not strange for me to have a few books on the go at once, but given the number of knitting projects i have in progress, multiple books seems ill-advised. i have a next to new copy of the satanic verses that i bought in halifax early in the summer. i've wanted to read this for awhile, but, given the mentality of most airport security these days, am leery of walking through a checkpoint with it in my bag. with my track record, i'm afraid to even try to take knitting on the plane.
so for now, i'll persist with my knitting, until a book jumps out at me. after finishing m's socks, i cast on for these socks. they're a christmas present but i'm confident that the recipient won't find out (mom, you're not going to tell, right?).
just worsted weight socks in patons wool using my grandma's pattern. it's such a treat to knit heavier socks because they pass so quickly. i'm planning a red heel and toe for these.
coming soon: baby knitting and, hopefully, michelle's baby.
