when in doubt, knit

Despite the number of times that M. has been witness to me cursing at my knitting or it being thrown across the room, knitting is very relaxing and can, for me, serve as a form of meditation. While others have been far more eloquent about the process, a simple knitting project allows my mind to work some things out while my hands keep busy. So, given the stress and unsettledness of the past few weeks, I was yearning for something simple and quick. Enter an Unoriginal Hat. The cables were simple enough to keep me engaged and the bulkiness of the yarn meant a quick knit.

I cast on Wednesday night and knit most of the hat in a few hours. In less than an hour this morning, I finished it up and sewed the seam. Being able to start and finish a project in the span of three days is just the sort of boost that I need right now. I'm pleased with the finished product, to boot, even if it is a little small (it's blocking as I write, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some extra length).

Pattern: An Unoriginal Hat (pdf)
Yarn: Bernat Felting Natural Wool, in Meadow
Needles: 7.5mm
Modifications: Used these instructions to convert the pattern to flat as I didn't have the right dpns and couldn't force my brain to do the work itself.
